Terms of use

Last updated: 28 April 2026

By using IsMyTaxDigital (the "site") you agree to these terms. They're short and written in plain English.

1. What this site is

IsMyTaxDigital is a free online resource providing information about HMRC's Making Tax Digital programme, plus a set of UK tax calculators. The site is operated as an independent project and is not affiliated with HMRC, gov.uk, or any accountancy firm or software vendor.

2. Not professional advice

Everything on this site, including the eligibility checker, tax calculators, news posts, and guides, is provided as general information only. It is not regulated tax, financial, accounting, legal, or investment advice and must not be relied on as such.

We are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority and do not provide regulated financial services. Calculator results are estimates intended to give you a rough sense of an outcome; they may not reflect your specific circumstances and may not capture every relevant rule, relief, or exception.

Before making any decision that affects your finances, your tax position, or your legal obligations, you should consult a qualified accountant, tax adviser, or solicitor.

3. Accuracy and updates

We make reasonable efforts to keep the site accurate and up to date with HMRC's published guidance, and every page that includes tax rules carries a "Last reviewed" date. However:

  • HMRC rules can change at any time, sometimes without immediate clarification.
  • The calculators use simplified assumptions and do not handle every relief, allowance, special status, or edge case.
  • Where this site differs from current HMRC guidance, HMRC's guidance is authoritative.

You should always verify any specific number, threshold, or deadline against the linked HMRC source before acting on it.

4. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, IsMyTaxDigital and its operators are not liable for any loss, damage, penalty, missed deadline, miscalculated tax, or other consequence arising from your use of this site or reliance on its content. Use of the site is at your own risk.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law (including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence).

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the site for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, or scrape the site at a rate that affects availability for others.
  • Reproduce substantial portions of the site's content without permission, except for personal, non-commercial use.
  • Submit false information through the contact form, newsletter signup, or reminder feature.

6. Third-party links

The site links to third-party resources, particularly gov.uk and accounting-software vendors. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability. A link is not an endorsement.

7. Privacy

Our handling of personal data is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date above shows when the latest version was published. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
