About IsMyTaxDigital

Last updated: 28 April 2026

IsMyTaxDigital is a free online tool that helps UK taxpayers answer one practical question: does HMRC's Making Tax Digital programme apply to me, and if so, when?

What we do

The site is focused on one job, with everything else in support of it:

The site also keeps a small set of other UK tax calculators for adjacent questions. They are deliberately simplified and not the centre of the product.

Who built this

IsMyTaxDigital is built and maintained by Mehmet Demir, a UK-based software engineer, as an independent side project. The site is not affiliated with HMRC, gov.uk, or any accountancy firm or software vendor. As of the last update, it carries no advertising, sponsored content, or affiliate links.

The site exists because the official HMRC pages are accurate but dense, and most other MTD resources online are accountancy-firm landing pages designed to capture leads. The goal here is a neutral, fast, plain-English answer that respects your time.

Our data sources

All MTD rules, thresholds, and deadlines on this site are taken directly from HMRC's published guidance:

Editorial standards

Every page on this site that contains tax rules carries:

  • A "Last reviewed" date so you can see when we last verified the content against HMRC's published guidance.
  • A direct "HMRC source" link so you can verify any specific claim against the original gov.uk page.
  • A clear disclaimer that the content is general guidance, not professional tax advice.

When HMRC announces a change (new thresholds, deferred deadlines, rate adjustments), we update the affected pages and bump the "Last reviewed" date. If you spot a discrepancy with current HMRC guidance, please tell us.

Important: this is not financial advice

IsMyTaxDigital provides general information and rough estimates. It is not regulated financial, tax, or legal advice, and we are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. Tax situations vary; rules change; software differs. For decisions that materially affect your finances, please consult a qualified accountant or tax adviser.
