Who we are
IsMyTaxDigital provides a free, informational eligibility checker for HMRC's Making Tax Digital programme. This site is operated as a personal/independent project and does not provide regulated tax advice.
For the purposes of UK GDPR, the data controller for personal data submitted through this site is the operator of IsMyTaxDigital. You can reach us at hello@ismytaxdigital.com or via the contact form on the homepage.
What data we collect
We only collect data that you choose to provide:
- Eligibility checker and calculators: the answers you select (taxpayer type, income, etc.) are processed in your browser only. They are not transmitted to us or stored on our servers.
- Contact form: if you submit the contact form, we collect your name, email address, and the message you write so that we can reply.
- Newsletter signup: if you subscribe to MTD updates from the footer signup form, we collect your email address only. We use it solely to send occasional notifications when HMRC announces a meaningful change to Making Tax Digital. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email we send you.
- Analytics: we use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to measure aggregate, anonymous usage. These do not set tracking cookies and do not identify individual users.
How we use your data
Contact form submissions and newsletter sign-ups are sent through Resend, our email delivery provider. We use contact details solely to respond to your message or send the MTD updates you signed up for. We do not sell, share, or use your contact details for any other marketing.
Lawful basis for processing
- Contact form: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR), to respond to enquiries you initiate.
- Newsletter: consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR), given when you submit your email through the signup form. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Analytics: legitimate interests, to understand aggregate site usage. No personal identifiers are collected.
How to unsubscribe
Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also unsubscribe by replying to any email you receive from us, or by emailing hello@ismytaxdigital.com with the subject "unsubscribe". We action requests within 7 days.
International data transfers
Our hosting and email providers (Vercel and Resend) are US-headquartered companies that may process data outside the UK and EEA. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, those transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an equivalent safeguard published by each provider.
Data retention
Contact form messages are retained in our email inbox for up to 24 months and are deleted thereafter unless an active correspondence is ongoing. Newsletter email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe. You may request deletion of either at any time.
Cookies
This site does not use tracking or advertising cookies. Vercel Analytics is cookieless. Your browser may set technical cookies required to render the site, but no personal tracking takes place.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, use the contact form on the homepage or email hello@ismytaxdigital.com. We will respond within one calendar month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We'd appreciate the chance to address concerns directly first.
Third parties
- Vercel, hosting and analytics provider.
- Resend, transactional email provider used for contact form delivery.
